plans for 2019

I’m still alive!

The bulk of my Japanese translation time in the past year has been focused on a few pieces by the East Asia Anti-Japan Armed Front, a Japanese terrorist organization active in the early 70’s. I’m in the last stage of my first draft of my essay about them, and I plan to have that completed and the whole piece published by the end of March.

In anime-related news, I’ve got a couple of projects lined up for the near future:

Anata no Yami Chinjufu 2: After months of combing the internet and finding nothing I finally got my hands on a hard copy of this doujin. Fortunately there’s a Chinese translation already up on e-hentai so I should be able to just scrub the text and replace it with English. The third in this series has been (poorly) translated, and though the raw has been uploaded as well I imagine it would be bad form to translate it myself. The first has yet to appear online or on Mandarake.

Virtual Youtuber stuff: I’ve been reading an issue of Eurika magazine with a bunch of analysis on Vtubers – it’s been quite interesting, and I might translate a few pieces from there as well as some stuff from the issues of Vtiq (Comptiq’s Vtuber magazine) I have on my shelf.

Ponzu Ame stuff: I still have a bunch of physical copies of this guy’s work that’s unscanned, and unfortunately no-one else seems to feel like scanning it either. I don’t feel like destroying my copies, but I may be able to scan one or two and still have both the doujin and the images come out okay, so this is still up in the air.

No promises on when any of this stuff will move, but Yami is my priority as my reward for wrapping up all this serious writing so look forward to that in the spring! I’ll also be posting one translation from Eurika on here this week!

it’s been a while

I didn’t realize quite how long it’s been since I did one of these, but I guess it’s been a minute! In that time I went to Japan again, had a blast at Comiket, made it back to the US without security going through my bags, and have just generally been living the life. While I did manage to pick up a whole lot of really nice doujins from Comiket and Mandarake I’m reluctant to destroy the binding, so lacking access to better scanning resources they’re just sitting for now. I also picked up a very nice Natsuha Sawai daki for an amount of money that I could justify.

In other news, I’m well into book three of Toradora! and a good part of the way through Little Busters!, both of which have been taking up a lot of my weeb-related time. Many of the doujins I’ve been reading off and on haven’t motivated me to put in the work of translating them. But one night (one could say, on a night like any other) I decided to scan for any newly uploaded works about the girl who’s probably highest on my boat-wife list, and boy did I find one.

So here I present to you deco’s Nandemonai Yoru ni, or A Night Like Any Other. This is a very sweet and kind of silly story featuring some quality time between Teitoku and Akatsuki as she acts has his secretary ship for the day. She’s portrayed as very caring towards both the other members of the 6thdisdev as well as Teitoku, and there are a few scenes and lines which, if you’re an Akatsuki fan, should absolutely melt your heart. Romance? Nothing explicit, but if you want to read that into it there’s no stopping you (or me). Hibiki also makes an appearance with some pretty interesting meta-commentary about the relationship between “we” commanders and the characters who populate Kancolle.

I apologize in advance for the resolution of these images – it was a pain in the ass to work with but lacking a physical copy I had only the low-res version that’s been uploaded by the author to the web. For that reason there’s also no afterword. Enjoy!

It’s done!

Presenting: Usagi Syndrome by Shiratama

Read it here on nhentai

This is the first of a three part Coco/Chino series by Shiratama (their new release for this upcoming Comiket is focused on Rize so I assume it’s all tied up, at least for now). Find links to the second and third here and here.

And speaking of Comiket – I’m off to Japan tomorrow and planning on going while I’m there! Between that and my stay there in general I’m sure I’ll bring back lots of good stuff to share!
